Project-based learning (PBL) is a student-centered education pedagogy that is based on the belief that students experience Deeper Learning when they are acquiring knowledge by exploring real-world challenges and problems.
High Tech High in San Diego was established as a model PBL learning environment. The key to PBL is defining purpose, the ‘why’ of learning, then challenging students to learn through a creative process.
Purpose Driven Learning is an amplification of PBL by challenging educators to understand the purpose for the learning from the student's perspective, a purpose that is often beyond the classroom.
This learning approach is based on the learning theories of Jean Piaget and others.
